The artist makes images about exploring, examination and collecting. He is particularly interested in cataloguing objects found in nature. His work is photographic and sculptural. By lighting simply and consistently from piece to piece, the collections show a graphic representation of a local or region.

“My work takes me into marginal areas. The areas between water and land, road and forest, the abandoned beaches, parking lots and overgrown public areas; these are my destinations. I have been mesmerized by the miniature world within a three-foot wide strip of weeds on a road in rural Michigan, and by the fresh layers of flotsam covering a beach after a storm. The resources are endless.

From these marginal places, I extract and I organize. Forms to come into view. Themes emerge. Raw materials are mined and later refined into photographs. I have a partner among the weeds and the detritus that live in these margins. They sustain me and challenge me to go further. They are easy to miss. I feel lucky to have seen them.”
